Visiting Bangladesh

Visa Instructions :

1. Fill in the prescribed application form completely in duplicate.

2. Fees $ 45.00 (Money Order/Bank Draft) for US citizens. Citizens of other countries please check with our website or call (202) 244-0183.

3. Attach passport size photograph in the place marked in both copies of the form.

4 . Send your passport along with self-addressed envelope with appropriate postage stamp and certification must be enclosed for passport to be returned/received by mail to your nearest Bangladesh Embassy.

5.Any misrepresentation of facts may lead to cancellation of visa at any time.

General Information :

1. All nationals need valid passports to visit Bangladesh. Passports are not required for holders of certificate, laissiez-passer issued by the UN and its affiliated bodies, continuous discharge Certificate/Nullies/ Seaman book (traveling on duty) issued by any country recognized by Bangladesh.

2. Employees working in NGO must provide the appointment letter of the NGO concerned and the NGO Affairs Bureau in Dhaka must attest that.
3. Missionaries must provide appointment letter by the church, which should contain “No Objection” by the concerned ministry.

4. Application for shooting in Bangladesh to produce TV/Video Film/Documentary by Foreign network/organization must be filed in Form FF-1 & FF-2 and regular Visa application form.

5. Official and Business visa requires letter of justification/financial guarantee from the employer.

6. Students require financial guarantee certificate and letter from the Educational Institution, which should be attested by the Ministry of Education.

7. Visas can be extended after arrival in Bangladesh.

8. Applications are received from 0900 - 1200 hours and the passports are delivered the next day from 1500-1700 hours. (Provided that the papers are OK and necessary clearances are obtained.)

9. Rules may be changed from time to time.

Others :

Your passport is a valuable document. It should always be either in your own custody or in the custody of a person duly authorized by you. If lost or destroyed, the fact and circumstances should be immediately reported to the nearest Bangladesh Embassy and to the local police.
PLEASE KEEP A PHOTOCOPY OF YOUR PASSPORT IN A SAFE PLACE. WITHOUT THESE DETAILS ISSUANCE OF A DUPLICATE PASSPORT MAY BE DELAYED.

It is an offense to give false information in the Application. Passport facilities can be denied on grounds of suppression of factual information, submission of false particulars, willful damage of passport and for making unauthorized changes in the passports.

Applications for all passports/consular services (Like issue of new/duplicate passports, renewals and miscellaneous services on passports, legalization/attestation of documents) are accepted between 09:00 AM and 4:30 PM. No application is received after 4:30 PM except in the cases of emergencies, such as death or illness in the family. This time schedule does not apply to services where prior approval is required from the authorities in Bangladesh.

Mailing Services:

Outstation applicants may send their application for passport/consular service by certified/registered mail. However, applications for duplicate passport in lieu of lost/damaged passport are accepted only in person. Such passports are not dispatched by mail.
Fee should be paid by Money Order/ Cashier checks made in favor of the Embassy of Bangladesh. Personal checks/ Cash are not accepted.
Applications in most cases sent in by mail, normally take about one week for processing. This is in addition to the time taken in mail (one to two weeks). This time schedule does not apply to issue or renewal of passports and some other services for which REFERENCE HAS TO BE MADE TO COMPETENT AUTHORITIES IN BANGLADESH.

Please refrain from making telephonic or written enquiry's in such cases about the status of your application, as it takes about 45 days to complete enquiry's.

The Embassy will get in touch with applicants in cases where the applications are incomplete/incorrect, the fees sent are not adequate or not paid in the acceptable manner or where there are other deficiencies.

For return of passport by mail, please send a self-addressed and adequately stamped envelope along with your application.
THE EMBASSY IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DOCUMENTS LOST IN MAIL. PASSPORT SHOULD NOT BE SENT OUT OF ANY COUNTRY BY POST. Please tender the exact amount in the form of Money order/Bank Draft/Certified Check in the name of Embassy of Bangladesh.
NO REFUNDS: Fees, once received, cannot be refunded, even if the application is withdrawn or service cannot be rendered.

Hours of Operation:

All offices are closed on Saturday, Sunday, and American and Bangladesh Holidays Embassy operating hours are Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m, but some Sections and Agencies within the Embassy may differ.
