Bangladesh Embassy established as a liberation war office on 4 August, 1971, this mission started functioning as a full fledged Embassy following the recognition of Bangladesh by the United States as an independent and sovereign country in April, 1972.

It was, however, the founder of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who laid the solid foundation of cordial, productive and expanding relations between the two countries through his visit to the USA in 1974.
